Ladies, even Dorothy realized she wasn't in Kansas anymore. What she knew to be her haven of rest got flipped around in a twister and plopped down on a witch! And all that before supper! Oh my! But even in the aftermath, Dorothy learned to use her head, trust her heart and find "da nerve" to face each strange obstacle. Instead of giving in to the schemes of the "Wicked Witch of the West"crossing through the field of beautiful poppies, her companions -- the Scarecrow (who used his noggin) and the Tin Man (who poured out his heart of compassion) -- helped her to gain the courage to not fall under attack. In the end, Dorothy realized that because of who she was, she had the ability to overcome all along.
Your Kansas might resemble a once-harmonious marriage that has faced a few twisters along the way. Your Kansas might even resemble your once-angelic children that are dancing too close to the proverbial fire. No matter your Kansas, God equips us with the brains of discernment, the heart of compassion and the courage of standing on our convictions. We learn to realize that Jesus may not be the great-and-powerful Oz, but He is the true King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We have complete and total access to Him 24-7 and He never goes hiding from our sight or cowering from our requests. "Seek first the kingdom of God...and all these things shall be added unto you." When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, we eventually find great peace and satisfaction in knowing that "we are more than conquerors." Conquerors because though the enemy prowls around like "a roaring lion seeking whom He may devour" our assurance is in the one who is "the lover of our souls!"
As we walk our "yellow brick roads" filled with unexpected twists and turns, remember that you are never left to face them alone. God's promise is that "no weapon formed against you will prosper!" So lions and tigers may be a threat, but they are no match for the one who goes with you every step of the way!
