EVER WONDER?

My sister is going through a very rough time right now. Because of poor character judgment and loneliness, she found herself pregnant at 40something. Giving birth to a son a year ago, he is literally the glue that holds her life together. She knows her past choices weren't the greatest, but you couldn't ask for a more sacrificial mother lovingly raising her child. Recently, her ex-fiance-turned-vindictive-broken soul took her to court. She called today to say that he was awarded custody of their son. Wrought with pain and blindly disillusioned, she's now wondering why God allowed this to happen. Although she's always strived to do what's right, she now cries out bitterly for why justice awards for bad behavior.

I didn't know how to answer her question. And from the hysterical state she was in on the phone, she didn't need my pat response. She needed a thick-skinned Christ to unravel the emotional mess she was facing. How about you? Have you ever wondered where God was in the middle of your pain and disillusionment? Have you lost a loved one, miscarried a child or faced financial ruin? Did you think, "God I've been a good person. Why is this happening to me?" Again, I don't have the answer. What I can share with you is a poem God gave me for my boss who was wondering why herself over the loss of her mom and terminal illness ravishing the body of a close relative she considered a second mom. May it bring you comfort if and when you ever wonder...

EVER WONDER
Ever wonder why dandelions are a delight to a child, but a nuisance to a gardener?
Or why Winter is too cold for some and to the earth it’s a time of peaceful ponder?
Ever wonder why a creative soul can find anything on a messy desk
But to a “neatnick,” it’s chaos waiting to happen and a time for unrest?
And then ever wonder why the good ones die young with vibrancy to spare
And the curmudgeon hang on to complain and gripe of dreams that go nowhere?

Well, I may not know the right answers to the simple or complex
And I may not understand the times and the roles that play out next.
All I know is life has purpose in itself and God’s plans may appear tough
And though it’s never quite understood right now, it will be soon enough.
Winters come, yet Spring arrives to lessen the heavy load
And dandelions will grow amidst the blooms of wonders yet untold

And if you ever wonder why stuff seems to happen and pain appears
Just know the wonder is in the delight of life — its joys, its laughs, its tears
And if you ever wonder why chaos has a way of ruling out in the end
Just know there’s a time and place and order to embrace this pain we’re living in
The answers are not only blowing in the wind as the songwriter once confessed
Our lives are a beauty to behold and God’s wonder is in the rest.
