A lot of the subject matter I tackle in my blog can be considered touchy. Like the proverbial elephant infiltrating a room, we would rather leave him be or hide him under the carpet when folks come a-callin’. I’m more partial to watching elephants roam free on Animal Planet, not wreak havoc in my humble abode. It’s not an easy feat to rid your home of this huge monstrosity. Often he comes with an enormous appetite and after a while, peanuts – or small appeasements – don’t satisfy his hunger. He wants our undivided attention and we are compelled to give it to him. As he enlarges, so does our creative ability to give him what he wants – at any cost. One day, our pet has become a pest and our small problems have grown the size of Africa!
It’s not easy getting rid of the beast, but it is possible. An unknown philosopher once asked, “How do you tackle an elephant?” The answer – one small piece at a time! God doesn’t expect us to embark upon a hopeless cause. It took time to reach what we have considered insurmountable problems. No. He has provided us with ammunition, supplies and guides for the task. He gives us the whole armor. He supplies us with His word of truth. He gives us the Holy Spirit as a willing companion who assists us in difficult times. We are simply not alone.
Over the ensuing weeks, I will be tackling tough issues using a series of writings God gave me a few years back. I call the declarative statements in this series, Manifestos. Each was written to invoke life-changing thoughts to the way we view ourselves and our circumstances. The end result of each – to face the lies about our worth head on and embrace God’s truth. It is no secret that you are valuable, priceless, beautiful, deserving treasures. Therefore, join me as we tackle the elephants in our lives one piece at a time.
