Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. - Matthew 6:1
When my son attended elementary school, I was one active mama but no one knew it. Too often I'd cringe from comments like, "if you want something done, give it to the busy mom" or "Mrs. So-And-So has a million things on her plate. I'm sure she won't mind one more!" I was not interested in competing with Mrs. So-And-So, so I kept my works to myself.
I limited my acts of service to coordinating the school's book fairs since my son grew into a rabid reader. And when I needed help pointing 100s of eager minds to bookcases instead of the money-stealing fuzzy pencils and neon erasers, I recruited other parents who didn't want to see those minds go to waste. Then one day, I remember getting buzzed into the office by our school secretary. I walked over to the counter to sign in and she introduced me to a teacher I had not met. To my great surprise, she said, "Oh that's Mrs. Cush. She's our covert parent!" And without skipping a beat, I added, "That's right. I assess the situation. I get in, get out and nobody gets hurt!" I can tell you the teacher looked a bit puzzled, but the secretary and I burst out laughing! I've been covert ever since.
Have you ever found yourself facing an opportunity to go "covert?" It's the moment where you get to bless someone without waiting for a pat on the back or an "atta girl!" You assess the situation. You get in, you get out and somebody gets blessed! Try it at the grocery store when you see a mother short on her last nerve and needs a hand in the produce aisle. Try it at the office when your co-worker's on a deadline and needs to collate a gadzillion copies in 2 minutes. What about pouring a little love into a note for a less-than-lovable sister. Seize the opportunities because we both know where our true reward comes!

TO ALL MY READERS - Thank you for your faithfulness. It has been a rough season, but as you have come to know me, I am all about embracing God's truth. I thank you for your prayers and ask that you continue lifting me up as I do the same for you. God has been doing some amazing things and as I stick to Him (like glue - smile) through the good, the bad and the ugly (Romans 8:28), I hope to continue offering encouragement and truth through my blog posts.
Have a blessed Easter! HE IS RISEN INDEED!!
